The building occupied by Ilico Studios was funded by the Space & Place programme - a £15 million, 5 year capital grants project that seeks to provide an opportunity for local communities to come together to identify a shared vision for their area and work together to deliver it.
The Space and Place programme is funded by the Big Lottery Fund, and managed by the Community Foundation for Northern Ireland in conjunction with the Northern Ireland Housing Executive, Public Health Agency, NI Environmental Link, Rural Community Network and Groundwork NI.
Ilico Studios is in the heart of the community for the community and run by the community. It's ethos is to bring Dance Music Fitness and Health and Well being programs to all sections of our communities including young children, Disabled groups, Adults, Students and Senior Citizens. As well as the obvious Health benefits , exercise and participation in Dance and Fitness programs, builds confidence and creates new friendships. Foyle Youth and Community Association ( gained charity status in 2010 and is now registered with the charity commission NI.
Foyle Youth and Community was formed in 2017. The association was to give children from cross communities within the city the opportunity to learn Dance and Fitness to enhance their creativity, confidence and led a more active and healthier life style. The association has grown over the past 14 years which includes working with multicultural and disabled groups and adults in a wide range style of Dance, Fitness, Music and Life Coaching Programmes. As well as the weekly classes, they organize competitions, workshops, open days and take part in performances at various events in the city. Over the years the group has taken children to Blackpool for the World Championships, Aviemore for the Scottish Championships and various locations in Southern Ireland giving opportunities to many children that they would not have achieved without the Dance and Fitness programs.
